HAVING A TREADMILL IN THE SAME ROOM AS A POOL
It is not a good idea to have a treadmill near a chlorinated indoor pool. The chlorine in the air of the environment near a pool can react with various metals in the treadmill in a deleterious manor. Among other compounds, it can combine with the iron in the steel of the frame and hardware, to make ferrous chloride, which is corrosive, or aluminum chloride, which reacts with water vapor to create hydrogen chloride, which combines with small water droplets from condensation to make hydrochloric acid. These processes are not likely to cause serious damage to the frame of the treadmill, but can have a negative effect on electrical connections and components, such as, motor control circuitry and display PCB's..
Also, the high humidity near a swimming pool can eventually
get into the core of the treadmill's deck, the platform that supports the
user's weight, causing it to swell, which can cause drag on the running belt,
which in turn will cause the premature failure of both the running belt and
the deck and cause problems with the treadmill's sensitive electronics.
When installing or relocating a treadmill and have
question's about the suitability of a particular environment, check your
owner's manual for specifics. If it is not covered in the treadmill owner's
manual, contact the manufacturer or a qualified treadmill service company
for guidance.
